Sometimes we are so absorbed and bound up with our daily stresses that we lose ourselves entirely and the meaning and purpose of our lives.
With both a literal and metaphorical message, ESCAPE invites the viewer into this blinkered world, while the greater outside lies beyond; the potential of freedom and mental peace, a journey perhaps and an island afar.
The concept of using an inside/outside space as a metaphor for a person’s psyche has always been a subject of interest for Alyson within her films and paintings. But this particular idea materialised and developed through the collaborative process, from a video into an installation comprising of a suitcase situated within the natural environment of Eramboo. What better way to contrast the idea of confinement and freedom!
